To cover the cost of dental work, benefit carriers offer several levels of coverage. The core benefit, Basic Dental, provides for preventative and routine restorative procedures and includes treatment for gum disease, root canal therapy and some denture services (relining and rebasing). The Major Restorative services can be added to the Basic Dental. Major Restorative provides for removable dentures, fixed bridgework and crowns. The final tier is Orthodontia (usually for children but can be for adults and children).
For maximum flexibility, benefit carriers offer a variety of choices for coverage levels, deductibles, co-insurance, recall options and benefit maximums. Schedules and fees vary by province.
